Steffi Diem

Steffi Diem is an assistant professor in engineering physics and her research group focuses on innovative plasma startup techniques to reduce the cost and complexity of future fusion reactors. She specializes in using microwaves to heat plasmas to millions of degrees (temperatures hotter than the sun) and has worked at university experiments as well as national laboratories and private industry managed facilities. She’s also the co-leader of the US Fusion Outreach Team, a grassroots effort to reduce the barriers to fusion outreach, and holds a BS in nuclear engineering and MA and PhD in astrophysics.
